Projects and results on resistance development

Bt maize plants produce a substance which is toxic to their chewing pests. The most significant maize pest that Bt maize is designed to control is the European corn borer. Could Bt maize be harmful to other species of moth and butterfly.

If insect-resistant Bt maize is cultivated on a large scale, sooner or later the targeted pests (European corn borer and Western corn rootworm) could develop resistance.
